‘Tis the season! It’s that wonderful time of year when we shop for the perfect gift for those we care about. Do you ever hit a brick wall when trying to come up with that perfect gift? I know I do. Do you fear giving the “horrible, never going to use this” gift to the teens and young adults on your list? It’s hard to know what college kids REALLY need or want. I’m a college mom so I did some research and compiled a list of both boys and girls items. I hope this holiday gift guide for college students sparks that perfect idea for you.
When you sit and really think about it college students are actually quite easy to buy for because they have so many needs and wants. Really. Just go back to the basics.
To make your shopping super easy I’m including photos. Click on the photo and it will take you to your point of purchase for that item.
College can’t be all study, eat, sleep, repeat. Kids need some time for entertainment. Here are some great ideas for audio, visual, and physical entertainment. Bluetooth speakers are a big hit with teens and young adults. This one is even waterproof! Spikeball is a fun game that can be played in the dorm hallway or an outdoor field. Fire TV stick is a streaming media device that allows enjoyment of tens of thousands of channels and apps. Plus it has Alexa Voice Remote included!
College kids won’t realize how much they need a portable external hard drive until their laptop is lost, stolen, or crashes. This and the other gift ideas below are practical items they don’t want to spend their limited money on, but sure are useful.
Simple and practical décor for the dorm room or apartment is always good. Salt Lamps are natural air purifiers and mood enhancers. Firefly and starry lights add desirable ambience to any room. Candles are great for apartment dwellers. Most dorms do not allow them.
Here’s a few good books for college students. Reviews and descriptions can be read by clicking the links.
You can never go wrong with gift cards or good old cash. Amazon sells just about everything now, even food! Uber is transportation of choice for many college students. Cash is king!
More Good Stuff
Most college kids need coffee. The compact Keurig machine is perfect! A handheld vacuum will make quick cleanups a cinch. Care packages are always a win. College kids need snacks and can never have too much! A cozy throw blanket comes in handy when the thermostat cannot be adjusted. Last, you can’t go wrong with a stainless steel sports water bottle. The current brand of choice is Hydro Flask.
Prime members receive fast, free shipping, exclusive access to movies and tv shows, and so much more. Prime membership enhances the options with Fire TV Stick too!
FabFitFun Subscription Box
Subscription boxes are the gift that keeps on giving. I really like the fabfitfun box for women. A new box filled with full-sized seasonal products is shipped in winter, spring, summer, and fall. You receive hundreds of dollars of product for only $49!
What college kid doesn’t want some sort of fan gear? Fanatics has a wide variety to choose from collegiate to the pros, from blankets to jerseys. It’s a fun online place to shop!
That sums up my holiday gift guide for college students. I hope you found it useful and inspiring. You probably noticed I didn’t suggest fashion items. That is because they can become a huge disaster with kids this age. Fashion and style are so personal and vary by regions too. Unless you know your recipients tastes very well, I suggest avoiding this gift idea. Or you can be like me and ask for photos and screenshots of what they like. This way you are sure to please.
